Environmental and Social Impact Assessment of the Proposed Ikorodu Mill at Odogunyan, Ikorodu, Lagos Nigeria
This project involves the implementation of ESIA for proposed Ikorodu Mill involved remodelling of an existing 8.664Ha factory premises for the production of disposable diapers and disposable training pants. The activities would involve decommissioning / refurbishment of existing structures, and installation of industrial machines and support facilities. The main features of the Mill upon completion will include: (i) Administrative Block, (ii) Finished Goods Warehouse, (iii) Manufacturing Bay, (iv) Raw Material Warehouse, (v) Driveway, (vi) Utility Area, (vii) Finished Goods Loading Bay, (viii) and Gate House. The Mill will comprise of two production lines with the capacity for one million (1,000,000) products per day. The products will be manufactured in automated system by processing and converting different raw materials such as cellulose, non-woven, elastics, adhesives, absorbent core, etc. Gas generators will be installed in the facility to power the Mill as the primary source of electricity. Wastes generated in the factory in form of off-cut materials and dusts will be collected by means of vacuum extraction and packaged for proper disposal and management. The ESIA tasks involved ecological field studies, air quality modelling and data analyses, stakeholders’ engagement, liaison with federal, state and local government regulators to comprehensively characterise the project environment, and make well-informed project impacts analyses. The Final ESIA was approved in July 2022 by the Federal Ministry of Environment.
